Story Tale
Today is.... July 19th.
Time is flying by. I can't believe I'll be home in like 2 weeks. Craaazy. We went to Washington D.C. on Saturday. It was hot and humid. I thought the White House would be a lot bigger. DC was really clean and Georgetown was super cute. We met this really nice little old lady who told us where we could by wine. We went to CVS, Safeway AND 7/11 and none of them sold wine. Good thing the little old lady knew that Trader Joe's would have it. It was this night that we decided we should write a book about our internship experience. Actually, it was Hannah's idea. But it had been in the back of my mind, too. I mean, a lot of crazy, funny, exciting shit happens in 2 months when your in the coolest city of the country. Our characters would be so different, yet so real. Hannah would be the crazy girl. Not necessarily crazy like drunk, sleep with a bunch of guys crazy. But crazy like "Oh my god I cant believe she just said that"" kinda crazy. Example. Hannah: "Im gonna make sangria" as she adds ice cubes to wine. Me: "Hannah, adding ice cubes to wine does not make it sangria." Hannah: "Oh." She's the blonde one. The one who lights up the room when anyone walks in. Hannah's the one in the back of the room dancing and making the funniest comments. Ever. Sara is the grungey girl with tattoos and a 30-year-old boyfriend. You would never think she is the most high maintenance. She brushes her hair at 4am when the fire alarm goes off an is always the last one to be ready on a night out with the girls. She doesn't like walking, either. Jessica is the one who knows everything that you learned in middle school about history. She reads her text books front to back and can finish a full novel in matter of only hours. She also talks on the phone REALLY loud. She can be immature at times, like squealing about the Bachelor or screaming about kissing boys through Skype. But she can be very mature, as well. She watches her money, is very responsible and, well, that's all I can really think of. And then there's me. The motherly, caring character who makes sure everyone has had their breakfast and daily vitamin. "Thanks, mom" Hannah says to me from time to time, when I remind her to get her laundry or when I hold her ice cream so she can adjust her purse and pay the ice cream lady. An then, aside from the main characters, we have our supporting actors. There's Allie, who is super quiet at first, very timid. Until she downs a bottle of vodka. For the pregame. And then there's Sam, the internship staff who is from England. All the girls love his accent- I mean, him.
Our adventures of the 4 musketeers, the girls in the city, the interns, could make millions on this book.
Ok, Jess is talking really, REALLY loud right now. I gotta go open can of motherly whoop ass.
Good night, NYC
Sunday morning we walk around a little more and went to the top of the Washington monument

Today is July 12th, 2010
This passed Friday, we went on a sponsored event. It was the dinner dance cruise. and it was so much fun. They had the best mashed potatoes of my life. Seriously. They were the best mashed potatoes I have ever had in my entire life. Along with the heaping pile of potatoes on my plate. I also had salmon, some pasta, and salad. After we ate, we went outside on the top of the deck (or whatever the terminology is for the top of the boat). The view was a amazing. Cruising on the Hudson in a huge boat with the view of the skyline of Manhattan. Now that's the life. I saw the Statue of Liberty up close which was breathtaking. Never thought that day would come.
At work today, Jen talked to us about our fashion field trip tomorrow. She is taking us to some of our clients' offices and then we are going on a tour bus around the city. I would love to work for Jen someday; she is an amazing person.
Wednesday we are going to see a movie at the Hudson, and Thursday there is a Sosume event (one of our clients) which I'm pretty excited for. This weekend we are going to D.C. for night. I'm expecting it to be pretty boring, but I'm excited to see the White House.
Tonight, Hannah and I went to a coffee shoppe around the corner called Gregory's coffee. We brought our books (I'm reading Love the One You're With), I wrote a couple postcards, and attempted to use the internet to blog, although I didn't have the password and was too lazy to get up and ask for it. Hannah makes me laugh so much. I'm pretty sure we'll be friends forever. Her porn imitations ("Oh God!) and just the random things she says makes being her friend worthwhile. Like, when Jess told us about a week of Yoga for 1$, Hannah goes "They must be Asian" or when we asked her what a communist was, she said, "somebody who wants equality for everyone" love her.
I bought my plane ticket home today. I never thought it would be so depressing. I don't want to leave. I love it here. NYC stole my heart. I mean, don't get me wrong, I miss my bean and cheese burritos, Oreganos, oh yeah and my family and friends. But I never thought I would fall in love with this place. Even the random awful smells in the street and unsanitary subways don't make me wanna leave.
I'm getting tired, running out of ideas, and Sarah is trying to sleep.

Where is this red cube?!?!
Today is July 7th, 2010.
My boss, Jen Phillips, CEO of Red Light PR called me this morning. I was sitting at Lyric Diner, where you can get eggs, toast, home fries and toast for a whopping $3.85. So Sara, Hannah and I walked the 2 blocks over there this morning. When my phone rang, I didn't recognize the number and had no idea who it was. It was Jen, and she told me she was too sick to have anyone in the showroom today. She told me to call Buffy, the other intern and tell her not to come in either. I felt bad for her because she sounded like a dying frog (poor thing) BUT 1.) I had the day off to do whatever I wanted and 2.) out of all 5 interns, Jen chose to call me to tell take the responsibility of notifying everyone else. It could have been the fact that I had emailed her earlier that morning, asking her to let me know if she needed anything to call me and left my phone number, because I knew she hadn't been feeling well the day before. Whatever the case, let me bask in my glory. I try to refer to the Devil Wears Prada and ask WWASD? What would Andrea Sachs do? Jen is nothing like Miranda Priestly, but in order to climb the ladder from below the bottom of the PR food chain, you must do what others dont even think twice about. Like to email your boss at 7 in the morning and ask if she needs anything on the way in. Or re-stocking the fridge with coconut water without being asked.
Anyways, I decided to take some time to day to take pictures with my Nikon. People ask me what I like to take pictures of, and I honestly like buildings and landscapes best. There have been a few sculptures and buildings that I have been wanting to take pictures of, so I decided a hot, muggy, Wednesday afternoon would be the time to do it. I went home, charged my camera for a bit and then I was off. I wanted to take a picture of this red block, but all I knew was that it was in the financial district. Big help, I know. So I hop on the N train, something I've never taken before and end up in Brooklyn. Took the train back to the Manhattan side, walked around for 30 minutes in 100 degree humid weather, looked at my phone GPS, looked to see what street I was on, looked back at my GPS... you get the picture. Sweat was dripping from my chin and my feet felt like they were on fire. I really wanted to find this cube. and I did.
After that, I went and grabbed lunch and came back and slept for 3 hours. It was a nice day off. I got some pictures taken that will be for my new house, and I got a long nap while everyone else was slaving away at work.
Good night, NYC

Finally
So, I've been saying I would create a blog for this whole trip/nyc/intern thing. It's been a month in and I still haven't written a damn post. Until now. This experience is far too precious to just forget about, and with this blog I hope to come back 2 months or 5 years from now and re live some of the best moments of my life. For those of you reading this, I'm not going to try to impress you with big words and correct grammar. This is my space to throw up my thoughts and to free my mind and maybe show a little creativity. So without further ado, here is a glimpse of my thoughts, my encounters, and my life in New York City.
Today is July 4th, 2010.
Sarah (my roommate), Alexa, Allie, and I walked the 8 avenues to the Chelsea Pier to watch the firework show. It was amazing sitting and watching fireworks over the Hudson river (even though you couldn't really see the river with all of the people crammed in front of us, but hey, I have to try to at least sound cool). We got there about an hour early to find a spot and were so excited to hear the boat's horns as a introduction to the firework show. The loud booms of the bursting fireworks reminded me of home, how the dogs would get so spooked but the foreign sound. I wished at that moment that all the puppies had a nice mommy to cuddle up with. The show went on for about a half an hour and the crowd ooed and awed at the sky. The finale was great, as expected, and before you knew it, fourth of July was over. We all wanted to beat the crowd on the way back so we jolted across the cobblestone streets to hail a cab. As we were walking with the thousands upon thousands of people scurrying back home, I saw the Empire State Building lit up red, white, and blue. It doesn't get more AMerican than that. Seeing the most famous building in the country, the building that everyone knows by its height and architecture, (and by the Jay-z and AK song, of course), just put a smile on my face. It's hard to sit back, relax and enjoy the moment in New York City, but its something that needs to be done. Looking at the ESB and thinking "Holy shit, I'm here. In NYC. On 4th of July. Looking at the Empire State Building" was one of those 'soaking in' moments.
Good night, NYC.
